We are in
transit today (Wednesday) to Chicago. Once there we will have now been in 15 States so far plus Canada on our trip (Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi,
Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey,
New York, Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois). Wow…the time has really gone by
quickly.
Just a
quick update…we stayed in South Haven for 2 nights, because the weather looked
like it was going to stay friendly for a time, and the extra break felt good.
South Haven was a nice little town, obviously a bit sleepy after Labor Day, but
definitely a town that is vibrant during the season.
On Tuesday
we made our way to Michigan City, IN, after a longish 60 mile travel day. The
lake treated us reasonably well, and we had a nice travel day. The marina isn’t
right downtown, but we took a hike for dinner, and found a decent sized
downtown. We didn’t linger long enough here to really learn much about the area.
And today we are on the way to Chicago…to DuSable Marina right down town. We plan to stay here for 3 nights, see some friends, take a tour or 2, and just enjoy the city. Weather is a bit gray, and the lake is a bit messy, but very manageable. After today, we are done with Lake Michigan, and while we enjoyed the stops we made, we are glad to have this formidable body of water behind us.
Our berth at South Haven...as you can see, it appears that the boating season is winding down...lots of empty slips around us. |
Sunset at South Haven looking out over Lake Michigan. The colors were gorgeous...we just couldn't quite get the perfect sunset picture this time. |
'Til later...
