Peterborough to Fenlon Falls - Pictures

Day #639; Loop Miles to Date = 7,565

OK...a slew of pictures from the last week (week of 7/2).

Peterborough Lift Lock. If you look closely, you can see the tops of some boats in the upper pan on the right.

View on the way up.

View on the way out...after only a couple of minutes.

Below some of the locks, where the dams are releasing tons of water, the current can be substantial...we call these dancing buoys. When we see these ahead, we know to get ready for some current.

Some of the sections can get rather narrow...barely room enough for 2 boats to pass.

That yellow thing in the middle of the pic is a float plane. Quite a convenient way to hop around in these parts.

Fortunately, the only store at Young's Point had ice cream!

Young's Point.
Idle time on the front porch at Young's Point.

There were more dogs (2) than houses on this island.

You need a boat to go to church here.

A sampling of the infamous rental houseboats. We saw some really interesting piloting of these things...fortunately mostly from a distance.

We encountered the Kawartha Voyager at Lovesick Lock. This customized fold-up bow on this cruise boat allows them to smash into the locks and maximize passenger count.

They don't even need fenders...probably less then a foot clearance all around.

Beautiful and peaceful at Lovesick.

While at Lovesick, we decided to take a dinghy excursion to enjoy the afternoon.

Fortunate for us, we had our buddyies on Act III to tow us when our engine conked out. We figure we got a little water in our gas tank with all of the rain that we had. We'll get this resolved before we transit Georgian Bay. Note all of the houseboats coming out of the lock in the background.

Yes...they will fill and empty all of this water for even a lone kayak.

There are times when locking through can be difficult work...sometimes, not so much.
