Britt to the Bustard Islands to Bad River to Beaverstone Bay to Killarney to Little Current

Day #672; Loop Miles to Date = 7,957

Wow...what a beautiful part of the world we are seeing up here. It is gorgeous, and we have had a really nice week...other than some rain that came in over the last few days holding us at marina docks for 3 days. And, we have had no WiFi service to speak of, and right now, only have marginal cell coverage. So, we will try to post a quick update (no pics until we can get a better connection) to let you know where we've been...

Last Saturday, we left Britt for the Bustard Islands. This was a beautiful, protected anchorage...our 3 boats had it mostly to ourselves. There are a couple of anchorage locations here, and it was a wonderful spot to spend a night. We could easily have spent another day here just lazing around and enjoying the scenery. We enjoyed watching a family of loons swimming around...they are such neat birds.

From the Bustards, we planned to anchor out at Bad River, which we did for a short period of time. But is was really crowded, and in early afternoon, we chose to head to our next choice which was only about 2 hours away...Beaverstone Bay. It was interesting...Bad River is rather a small anchorage and there must have been 25 boats there. Beaverstone Bay is enormous, and there were only 3 boats here. We enjoyed a couple of nights here...it was lovely and peaceful. But, we developed a minor problem...our generator start battery quit working, so we were without a generator starting on the second evening. We can get by without the generator for a day or so when at anchor, but much longer than this and we need it, or need to be at a marina. We were headed to Killarney to a marina next anyway, so we headed there next (now Wednesday).

Killarney was fine...a small town with a resort feel...populated by both cruisers and land based vacationers who come here to enjoy the resort. Unfortunately, they don't have any real marine services, so there was no help to be had for our battery issue. The closest town that might have what we needed was 60 miles away by car...that wasn't gonna work. But we found that there was a NAPA store in Little Current, a 22 mile boat ride away. We weren't planning to be in Little Current until sometime next week, but chose to head there to get the battery replaced so that we could enjoy additional nights at anchor.

So on Thursday, we headed to Little Current where the NAPA store had already special ordered our battery to be delivered. We arrived at about 1 pm, and by 3 pm, Rob had carted off our old battery, and replaced it with the new one. The interesting side note here is that once we dug into this battery issue, we found that the generator start battery was the ORIGINAL battery that came with the boat...which meant that we had gotten 16 years of service out of it. That's not too shabby!

And then the rain started, so we stayed in Liitle Current through Friday night, and on Saturday, we will head out to Baie Fin...we are back tracking a bit, but this is a spot that was on our must see list.

We have a bunch of pictures to share, and will whenever we can. The trip from Beaverstone Bay to Killarney, through the Collins Inlet, was spectacular. It is the only area in North America that is considered a Fjord...it was a really pretty ride that day. Our pictures will not do it justice, but our memories of it will last forever.

All for now...stay tuned.
