NYC Photos and West Point Military Academy

Day #601; Loop Miles to Date = 6,946

We've been at Half Moon Bay Marina at Croton-on-Hudson for a couple of days now, and found some WiFi at the local library. So...here are a bunch of pics from our journey through New York Harbor a few days ago...

As you can see, there was a low cloud cover this day. Our first real view of Manhattan before crossing under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

One of 3 Navy Warships that we saw on our transit through the harbor.

USCG escort for one of the warships.

As close as we wanted to get...

Our first view of Lady Liberty.

Courtesy of our friends on Act III...Once in a lifetime!

No idea what building this is...looked like a giant sail.

And now NYC in our rear view mirror. Until we got to about here, the harbor was very busy with traffic and lots of sloppy water. As invigorating as this experience was, it was also nice to return to nice calm, peaceful waters!
At one point we had this big guy cross behind us. He had 4 tugs working with him, and fortunately for us, he was moving slower than we were. It still is a bit unnerving to look out back and see one of these behemoths right behind you.
On our second full day at Half Moon Bay, we took a 1/2 day trip up to West Point to see the Academy. It was well worth the effort, educational, and just plain interesting to see the campus.

The parade grounds, and one of the dorm complexes.

The Academy Superintendent's Quarters.

The chapel...simply gorgeous. There are actually 5 chapels on the campus, including the original small chapel, a Jewish "Chapel", and a Roman Catholic Chapel. This main chapel is non-denominational Protestant. The stained glass here is simply incredible...our pictures just couldn't do it justice.

This chapel is home to the largest chapel pipe organ in the world. Hard to imagine the skill it takes to really master this.
The same chapel from a distance.

Sandy overlooking part of our next leg...more of the Hudson River, from Trophy Point on the grounds of the Academy.

All for now...thanks for reading. Tomorrow, we're thinking the Rockefeller Mansion.
