Ditto Landing to Joe Wheeler

What can we say...another great day of cruising. We had 57 miles to cover, so we made sure to be off the dock at a reasonably early hour...8:30am. We traveled almost all day with Reunion once again...a very comfortable pace setter for us. A lot of the day was a bit more pedestrian cruising - wider lake areas, and less river scenery. And we saw more commercial activity as Decatur, AL is more of an industrial center than you might think. We stopped briefly after about 4 hours on the river to give the dogs a break at Lucy's Branch Marina. This spot looks to be a bit of a hidden gem, tucked behind a breakwater. It looked to us like the marina office and transient docks had all been rebuilt very recently.

We rolled into Joe Wheeler for the Rendezvous by about 3pm, which was perfect. For the rest of the week, we'll be at Joe Wheeler, and likely the blog will take a breather after this one gets posted. (We're actually finishing this one up after being here for a few days...full agendas and lots of people to meet and boats to see.)

Stay tuned...we'll probably post again when we are on the move!

Beautiful morning...just a wee bit of fog...only for the first few minutes.

Decatur is the home of Meow Mix...and yes it smelled an awful lot like cat food!

A railroad lift bridge that had to be raised even for small boats like us. That's Reunion going under it here. In it's down position it is only about a 10 foot clearance. This is still in Decatur, AL.

Random tow boat idling on the bank of the river in Decatur.

More barges staged on the side of the river.

Our approach to Joe Wheeler Park for the Rendezvous.
Tired crew after a day of cruising. About asleep, resting in the cockpit at the dock.

And now a bonus! Here is a video of us coming into Joe Wheeler Park. One of the folks who works with Curtis Stokes (the broker who helped up find Sandrobber) was filming us with a drone as we came into the marina...Short, but sweet! Just click on this link:
